ELECTIONS IN MY COMMUNITY

Election is defined in different dictionaries as the act of choosing a position holder. A vote to select a winner of a position or political office. A power bestowed upon the citizens. A way of choosing the masses representative. In most part of the countries today, we have a clear believe that elections and the electing committees has been biased. Initially, election gives the masses the power needed to vote and choose their preferred candidates as their representative under a free and fair conditions. 

But, election in some major parts of the nations in Africa these days, viewing from the giant of Africa, Nigeria, is very cruel and has been turned upside down. After election, the masses should be happy about the choice they made, but for some greedy reasons, it got rigged. Voting is a power bestowed upon the citizens to choose their preferred candidates which should be done peacefully under a very free and fair condition but not! Election and Voting as it is has different attached merit and dismerits from triggering public violence and more. Because of elections in our community these days, properties got destroyed and lives were taken. There's an increment to the population of political thugs, chaos in every corner between voters, all these were caused by the aspirants in the name of election mainly because they all want to win. Election may share the same bed with corruption. "Voting a wrong leader is voting a corrupt leader" When an election is rigged, it reduces the enthusiasm of a voter towards another election, it will render the voters unhappy and depressed and then fill them with anger which would later instigate them into causing public violences and protesting against the election result (civil unrest) Some aggrieved or greedy citizens would even think of forcefully stealing the ballot boxes.

 The question is, without election, will public violence attenuate? In another dimension, election could boost the economy of various organizations or companies from the radio stations, television stations, billboard advertisements and creating different types of petty job for some youths. Before being able to vote or take part in an election, you would have attained the age of 18 but in my community today, some power hunger politicians has aggravated the situation thereby strengthening children below the age of 18 the power to vote and going against constitutional rules and regulations governing votingn and electing.. My opinion is to allow a peaceful election under a very free and fair conditions.. (These are the problems battling my nation)
